The Risk Landscape is a structured pre-mortem: we identify failure modes, assess their likelihood and impact, and build mitigation strategies before the first milestone is due. Instead of waiting for risks to surface during execution, we surface them during planning.

A risk landscape built after the terrain is understood catches the risks that actually matter. The Risk Landscape works because it’s built after the landscape, stakeholders, and architecture are understood: you can’t identify real risks until you know the terrain. That sequencing is what makes the pre-mortem honest rather than performative.
